Summary
The young people of Callander and surrounding area were successful in securing LEADER+ funding to pilot a small cinema facility over the Summer of 2004. The pilot project will be run as a mini-business showing latest release films 3 nights a week, with the income generated used to cover the cost of film hire during the rest of the year. A management group made up of young people will run the project, supported by staff from the Callander Youth Project.
The project will also help connect young people back with the wider Callander community by 'removing' the threat they are seen to be when hanging about on the streets in the evenings, and turning it into something positive, and of community benefit, by running this cinema club.
Match funding for this project has been provided by the Police Community Fund as it is expected to result in less vandalism and petty crimes which are often caused by sheer boredom.
