Case StudyApplicantCallander Youth Project ProjectFeasibility Study into Growing Young Entrepreneurs in the Rural Economy Total project cost / Leader+ grant£19,392 / £9,696 SummaryThis feasibility and development project will look at the best way of helping young people in the rural area set up their own businesses to capture some of the new wealth to the area from the expected increase in visitors. The new National Park designation presents a number of business opportunities for the rural area, and yet very few (if any) young people are ready to take up these opportunities. From the experience of agencies working with young people, this is due to three key factors: lack of confidence, lack of business experience, and lack of relevant qualifications/education. The main objective of this stage of the project is therefore to design a training and work experience programme to overcome these factors and to answer the many questions on the practicalities of such a programme. The feasibility project is due to start in August 2004 and will run until June 2005. Providing young people with the skills and confidence needed to make a success of the business opportunities around them will be crucial to keeping young people in the rural area, thereby ensuring the future health and sustainability of our rural communities.
