Project
Stirling and Trossachs Birds of Prey Trails: Real and Virtual
Total project cost / Leader+ grant
£133,240 / £30,940
Summary
This project coincides with the 50th anniversary of the return of breeding
ospreys to Scotland. The three year project will provide staff and volunteers
to give face-to-face wildlife interpretation at David Marshall Lodge,
Aberfoyle, and outreach to community groups and young people in the Lomond
and Rural Stirling area. In year 1 a bird of prey trail linking the ospreys
and peregrines in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park with the red kites project
at Argaty (Lerrocks Farm) will be piloted and operated, whilst a web-based
virtual trail will be prepared as an educational tool alongside the physical
trail with information about the birds of prey in the area.
Local businesses and members of the local community will be involved
in determining exactly where the trail will go, and where interpretation
boards will be located: some at sites of special scientific interest,
some at good viewing locations, and some next to businesses wanting to
be linked to the trail.
