Project

Mill of Haldane Green Corridor Project

Total project cost / Leader+ grant

£174,014 / 15,000

Summary

The Green Corridor Project aims to promote Community Leadership in an environmental venture to improve the access to nearby towns, the National Park and to encourage healthier living in and around the area.

The Green Corridor is an area of natural beauty, with variety of wildlife species. The area floods throughout the winter, making the route inaccessible for the community to access the shops in nearby Balloch, the supermarket and public transport.

This project will reroute the Ballagan Burn to its natural course, create a raised footpath that will be accessible throughout the year, replace a dilapidated footbridge that crosses the burn and install lighting on the path. The old channel of the burn will be used to create new wetlands to benefit wildlife.

By July 2003, the project was pleased to be able to report good progress with the project, with the contractural work complete, and considerable community usage of the area. West Dunbartonshire Environment Trust are also considering the creation of a Ranger job to cover the area and to develop some of the educational uses of the site.
