Case StudyApplicantARCH ProjectCashel and Authausen Community Archaeology Project Total project cost / Leader+ grant£38,990 / £19,495 SummaryThis project will have two parts. Firstly, 12 young peole from Authausen and Pressel (in Eastern Germany) will travel to Cashel (on the banks of Loch Lomond) to work with 12 local young people. Together they will be taught traditional craft skills (e.g. thatching, drystane dyking) and other skills such as archaeological surveying. They will then work together to reconstruct a traditional sheiling. The second part will be for the Scottish group to travel to Germany to learn other skills and crafts, and then rebuild a village baking complex. Through the project, participants should better understand 'Local Agenda 21' (the local element of the global initiative for sustainability), the history and culture of the areas involved, and the value of cooperation. It will also provide interesting heritage tourism sites for the participating areas. To learn more about the project, click here. To learn more about ARCH, click here. |
