Case StudyApplicantLerrocks Farm, Argaty ProjectArgaty Red Kites Summer Guided Walks Programme Total project cost / Leader+ grant£13,245 / £5,098 SummaryThis project will pilot a summer Red Kites visitor attraction, based on a successful winter red kites viewing attraction. The summer programme will be broader than the winter facility as it will encompass guided environmental walks around 1400 acres of farm and woodland. The walks will include areas of wildlife interest, allowing visitors to enjoy wildflower meadows, historical sites as well as over 70 species of birds (including red kites). The winter viewing project has already attracted a significant increase in visitors to Doune from all over the UK, thanks to the support from the RSPB and distribution of publicity to their over 1 million members, as well as television, radio and newspaper coverage. Closer to home, members of the local community have also been closely involved in the project - schools visit regularly, as do individuals interested in the progress of the red kites.
